Did You Know?
1. That the World University Games are the second largest global multi-sports event behind the Summer Olympics?
2. That the Games are almost twice the size of the last Commonwealth Games in Melbourne?
3. That you are a part of the largest ever New Zealand Team to these Games?
4. That over 10,000 competitors and officials from 165 nations are expected to attend the Games in Bangkok making them the largest ever beating the previous high of 8,500 in Turkey in 2005?
5. That the Games were first staged in Torino, Italy in 1959 and have been held every 2 years since then. The Bangkok Games will be the 24th edition.
6. That FISU is the International University Sports Federation - a Brussels based organisation which runs the Games in conjunction with the host city organising committee.
7. That the FISU anthem is played at all medal ceremonies rather than the national anthem of the gold medal winner - like it or loathe it this is a fact!

Medal Moments at World University Games - Helen Norfolk
In Izmir in 2005, swimmer Helen Norfolk became the first Kiwi to win 3 medals (all silver) at a single World University Games.
Helen's first medal came on the first day of the swim competition in the 4x100m Freestyle Relay alongside Alison Fitch, Te Rina Taite and Georgina Toomey. The second followed a day later when Helen, Alison, Te Rina and Melissa Ingram won silver in the 4x200m Freestyle Relay. Another silver in the 200m Individual Medley completed this famous success.
Helen, who will compete in Bangkok, needs 1 medal to equal Anthony Mosse's overall Kiwi record of 4 medals won at these Games.
